What is it about?

Vital signs — like heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure — can be measured quickly and without invasive procedures, making them useful for identifying patients at risk of life-threatening conditions. However, there hasn’t been a scoring system that’s both simple and reliable. To address this gap, we developed a new scoring system called RqSOFA. Even though it’s much easier to use than NEWS — a widely used score known for its high accuracy — it demonstrated equal or superior predictive performance for in-hospital mortality.

Why is it important?

Using RqSOFA can help identify critically ill patients more effectively, even in a crowded emergency department, and ensure they receive timely critical care.
