What is it about?

LAGB surgery results in better outcomes for male than female patients as measured by the BAROS, despite a similar BMI reduction. Gender-specific outcomes should be taken into consideration in optimizing patient selection and preoperative patient counseling.

Why is it important?

We tend to be gender biased or at least see gender as irrelevant to surgical outcomes. The current study has shown that males benefit more from a specific bariatric procedure - LAGB

Perspectives

We need to be gender unbiased and tailor the bariatric procedure to the needs and abilities of our patients, thus consider gender when we try to find the best bariatric solution for our patients.
