Why is it important?

Reliable assessment of psychopathology in pre-surgical period is important for early referral to treatment, stabilization before surgical intervention, and to avoid post-surgical worsening. The SCID-I is a standardized gold-standard clinical interview to determine the presence of mental disorders.

Perspectives

Most of obese patients earger to be submitted to bariatric surgery and tend to disguise psychopathology. Structured clinical interview can assure the mental health of patient in the pre-surgical period. The very high rate of mental disorders found among obese patient can be helpful to understand the bidirectional causal relationship between mental disorder and obesity.
