What is it about?

Experimental assessment of the chitosan effect on the stability of gold nanoparticles in aqueous solution and evaluation of the surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy performance of the gold/chitosan composite. The possibility of resuspension of the composite after deposition was evaluated, and we verified that it could be stored for several weeks and resuspended successfully, which may increase applicability.

Why is it important?

The improved stability and the possibility of storing and resuspending Au nanoparticles/chitosan composites may increase the applicability of those plasmonic materials; that is because Au nanoparticles in suspension tend to aggregate and precipitate uncontrollably.

Perspectives

We intend to improve the applications and analyse the limits of the approach for several applications, which may include, beyond SERS, fluorescence and other spectroscopic techniques.
