What is it about?
We examine literature on NGOs' potential use of internet-enabled accountability with stakeholders. Many researchers call for greater dialogic engagement through this medium. We draw on Vial's proposals for addressing digitalisation challenges. and suggest that while digitalisation can create connectedness, it is unlikely to support ethical accountability through dialogic interactions.

Why is it important?
We challenge the main message of prior research which argues that NGOs ‘just’ have to increase their digital communications in order to improve their relations with various stakeholders. NGOs must use digitalisation in a way that enables them to increase their 'communicability' and discharge ethical accountability that truly relates to the Other.
Perspectives
This collaboration enabled me to explore what has worried me for some time - that researchers suggest more is required in digitalisation but do not give a stakeholder-informed response as to 'what' NGOs should do. We do not do that either, but present the challenge in a theoretically informed way to move the conversation forward.
