What is it about?

Modification of kaolin was carried out for the sorption of La, Eu and U ions from low-grade monazite leachate. Monazite ore is one of the main resources of uranium and lanthanide elements, therefore, this work focused on sorption of uranium, lanthanum and europium ions from low-grade monazite leachate.

Why is it important?

Gamma radiation polymerization method was used for the modification of kaolin to produce a composite sorbent for the removal of uranium, lanthanum and europium ions from low-grade monazite leachate.

Perspectives

• Gamma radiation polymerization method was used for the composite preparation. • Physical and chemical properties of the prepared composite were investigated. • Efficiency of the composite for removal of La3+, Eu3+ and U6+ was studied. • The prepared composite exhibited a high sorption capacity for La3+, Eu3+ and U6+ ions.
