What is it about?

This study assessed whether the subjective cultures through which subjects interpret and enact their experience of the social environment play a major role in increasing (or decreasing) the probability of pathological gambling.

Why is it important?

The study highlights that subjective cultures, thus the way people position themselves within the cultural context, constitutes a factor to be taken into account in order to understand gambling better. From this standpoint, our study represents a contribution to that line of thought that is striving to underline the role of culture in gambling, a role that has so far seemed rather marginal in the field of gambling studies
