What is it about?

In this communication, we compared the inclusion of pantoprazole with beta-cyclodextrin and cucurbit[7]uril. Here we used mainly fluorescence spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and molecular dynamic simulations to ascertain the mode of interactions of the guest with the two hosts.

Why is it important?

The use of molecular nano-capsules to host pharmaceuticals is a focus of active research lately. In addition to the development of drug delivery systems, the enhancement of solubility, and stability are among the many merits of this supramolecular assembly. Currently, some drug formulations have already reached the market and are commercially available.

Perspectives

The cavity sizes of the two hosts are comparable, but are the two complexes similar? Interestingly, the inclusion phenomenon is quite different in the two cases.
