What is it about?

Algal biofuels have been suggested to provide a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. This work reports that the likely productivity is ca less than 10% of popular claims. This raises doubts over the potential for algal biofuels.

Millions of $ have been spent over decades on selling algal biofuels - the hype appears unwarranted.

Perspectives

Having been involved in 2 multi million $ projects on algal biofuels, I now see that the future is not good for this idea. We would be better off using mass algal culturing for food security.
