Why is it important?

While the group with high-functioning autism generally performed worse than controls, most differences were not statistically significant. However, the participants with high-functioning autism showed a significant deficit in maintaining set, indicating reduced focused attention.

Perspectives

These results indicate that individuals with high-functioning autism may experience challenges related to attention, as also demonstrated by their joint-attention behavior.
