What is it about?

Ralstonia solanacearum, a soil borne plant pathogenic bacterium which is highly diverse which makes the control of pathogen very difficult. This article provides the experimental evidence of the existence of two major groups of this pathogen. One group represents the isolates from the known sequevars and the other group represents the hitherto unknown sequevars. The unknown sequevar group represents the majority of isolates from India.

Why is it important?

This is the first report on the existence of newer or unknown sequevars of Ralstonia solanacearum from India. Grouping of isolates into two major clusters will help in the better understanding of this pathogen population in the country. The findings will help in better screening of various cultivars for disease reaction using major pathogen groups.
