The study examined if excess finance has a positive effect on the real sector proxied by industrial value-added, agriculture value-added and total factor productivity in sub-Saharan Africa.

The study is significant as it provides empirical evidence on whether the expansion in the financial sector is detrimental to the growth of the real sector in sub-Saharan Africa, as claimed by some studies.
