What is it about?

The involvement of technology in the education domain has transformed the traditional system in many countries. The need was realized when 300 million students in India itself were pushed to move from traditional to various digital education platforms during the pandemic. There has been an essential emphasis given to the promotion of digital based education for achieving the aim of Digital India and National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Considering the vision, this research work is an attempt to articulate such factors affecting the attainment of digital education based on previous researches and opinions of domain experts in this area to develop a hierarchical model of the factors affecting adoption of digital education.

Why is it important?

All facets of modern life have been impacted by technological innovations. Observing the shifts to technology based task handling for educational purposes has become a common essential and has brought about significant changes in the conventional teaching-learning methods. Information and communication technology (ICT) has become an integral part that has affected people’s lives and their daily activities. Online education is becoming a common way to instruct students and is seen as a development of remote education. Due to its flexibility and accessibility, online education is now the most widely used kind of distant learning, and interest in it has been growing. It may be noted that NEP 2020 is portrayed as a revolutionary step towards digital education mission in India. After a long history of traditional system, this policy is an attempt to bring a lot of changes and promotion of digital education being a part of it. Therefore, this paper is an attempt to showcase the role of different factors under the chosen system of digital education in hierarchical pattern and to give a base to policy planners regarding the readiness of the country to switch to the digital education. This can help the executors to bring the best possible decisions and plan the implementation by looking at each of the factor, its impact and role in the hierarchy in the presence of other factors.

Perspectives

In order to have a successful implementation of National Education Policy 2020 in India concerning the adoption of digital education, this research provides a platform so as to understand how factors of digital education in context of Higher Education interact with each other and how decision makers and policy planners can take a look upon it and plan the appropriate adoption and implementation process.
