Why is it important?

When it comes to improving research and practice for music and mental health, part of the challenge is the highly interdisciplinary nature of this field. Our global scoping review of the literature ("The Use of Music in the Treatment and Management of Serious Mental Illness: A Global Scoping Review of the Literature") indicated the difficulty in synthesizing findings from so many different fields, including psychology, neurology, psychiatry, music, and public health. This first-of-its-kind study builds upon that review to help illuminate the many challenges and opportunities this interdisciplinary field faces. It offers insights, recommendations, and practical advice from researchers and practitioners.
