What is it about?
Heavy metals, such as vanadium, are environmental and health hazards. Here we have shown that nanocellulose with bisphophonate groups can be used to remove vanadium(V) ions from water.

Why is it important?
Water purification is important field of research due to heavy pollution of drinkable water resources. It is also important that chemicals used in water purification are produced from green sources and have low toxicity.
Perspectives
Nanocelluloses produced here showed good adsorption efficiency towards the vanadium ion.
