What is it about?

Spiritual leadership theory has become influential in recent years. Business organizations have seen this as a way of capturing not just the minds and hearts of their employees, but also their spirits. This instrumentalism has rightly been criticised. However, the danger is we are burning a straw man and, in so doing, 'lose' the unique insights from Jesus. We offer four examples: embracing work as a calling rather than a job, thinking theologically rather than materially, maintaining ethical purpose rather than bowing to market pressure and being transformed internally rather than regulated externally.

Why is it important?

Reflecting on the person and teachings of Jesus, we see how they speak incisively across the centuries. Perhaps surprisingly Jesus calls for radical non-conformity.

Perspectives

Of all my publications, this is the one I most enjoyed. In it, with my colleagues, I have brought my professional experience and training as a social-psychologist together with my appreciation of Christian scripture over the 40 years of my career.
