What is it about?

This article relates to the factors underlying formation of the phenotype. From the middle 19th century, it is usually said that such factors are limited to the genotype, the environment, and their interaction. However, multiple data demonstrate that stochastic molecular processes are also involved in phenotype formation. In some cases, the impact of these processes is very significant.

Why is it important?

Although monozygotic twins possess the same genotype and are rared in closely similar environment, they often significantly differ in their behavioral traits. This is usually believed to be due to the differences in non-shared environment. But certain external factors that significantly affect such differences are still unknown. We propose that the major factors of non-shared invoronment are represented by stochastic molecular processes during individual embryogenesis.

Perspectives

Our article can facilitate paradigm shift related to trait formation in behavior genetics.
