Why is it important?

Our research found that the Chinese image of the EU has seen a dramatic change recently and that the terms on which China is ready to cooperate with the EU are changing. It is important that the EU comes to grips with these shifts and accepts them as a basis for developing a constructive and realistic China policy that better serves European interests.

Perspectives

This article was based on an earlier report on by the same authors ("China, the EU and the Netherlands – A Chinese Perspective"). For this article, our analysis was expanded, reworked and updated with the aim of discussing key implications at the EU level.
