Why is it important?

High acidity in ponds is recorded globally for recent decades. However, mean water pH In 6 sites sampled in a pond during summer in Mongolia reveals high alkalinity (range 9.01–10.45). The presence of our taxa in a highly alkaline environment indicates that they may be alkaliphilic. Presumably, alkalinity of the water and soil in Mongolian wetlands heavily depends on excrement from a great number of livestock animals.
