This Australian insect pest attacks a host of fruits and vegetables - here we looked at different tactical solutions to suppressing it.

Why is it important?

The model suggested that the most rapid decrease in population size comes from releasing sterile flies and using protein baits. However, the model predicted both tactics alone would result in population reductions. Toxic baits can be used prior to releasing to increase efficiency.
