What is it about?

In the Pyragas feedback, a delay term appears in the feedback control that uses data from a time in the past, that is of t = present time - delay delta. In this way, stabilization can be achieved that can be exponentially fast under certain assumptions. This is particularly useful for stabilization to a periodic orbit. In this case, the delay delta will often be chosen as the period of the periodic orbit.

Why is it important?

In our life periodic processes are essential, like heart beats. For the stabilization of periodic processes, special feedback laws are needed. We hope that this will lead in the future to applications in medcine. However, this requires further research work.

This was an extremely nice collaboration with Mariano Mateos and Fredi Tröltzsch.
