What is it about?

Dermoscope is a non-invasive tool used to see skin features with high magnification. It has been used for screening of skin cancer, particularly melanoma, for long time. Recently, it has been used to examine skin inflammation as well. Herein, we showed that skin inflammation features, seen by dermoscope, reflect features seen by microscope.

Why is it important?

Our findings showed that dermoscope can aid in diagnosis of inflammatory skin diseases as its findings correlate with microscopic findings. It is possible to develop diagnostic dermoscopic criteria for some inflammatory skin diseases, such as psoriasis and lichen planus.

Perspectives

Dermoscope can aid in diagnosis of inflammatory skin diseases. Our prospective vision is that dermoscope can substitute the ordinary invasive diagnostic skin biopsy in the future, particularly with the application of diagnostic dermoscopic diagnostic criteria.
