What is it about?

Double-phase transition is generally observed in the block copolymer solutions due to its micellar property. This paper reports double phase transition can be also induced in the polymer complex solution - low LCST and high UCST in one heating scan.

Why is it important?

It is more facile to prepare the polymer complex by blending than the block copolymer. Also, it is easier to control the phase transition temperatures in this polymer complex. Due to the property change as a function of temperature and pH level in poly (N-isopropylacrylamide-co-2-acrylamidoglycolic acid) solution, poly (N, N'-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) moiety can attach onto the different functionalities of that copolymer.

Perspectives

This work has been conducted in 1 wt% polymer solution, and only in the aqueous solution. It may be interesting to study that this double phase transition is still observed when these conditions are changed and other types of polymer solution are applied.
