What is it about?

Sediment particle movement on 2D and 3D bedforms was measured using Particle Image Velocimetry and custom-design lighting and image capturing system. Obtained result was analyzed using Proper Orthogonal Decomposition. It was found that the process of sediment particle movement on the dune-scale (a crest-trough-sequence) was common for 2D and 3D bedforms. The sediment transport occurred resonantly for multi-dunes-scale for 2D bedform.

Why is it important?

The developed method can be used for analyzing the sediment transport process occurring on complicated topographies. The research outcome contributes to understand and predict bedform change and sediment transport rate. Obtained data can be used for validation of CFD result.
