What is it about?

Many hydrocarbons, especially polyaromatic hydrocarbons are insoluble in aqeous solutions. In this study, hydrophilic polymers were supplemented to increase solubility of hydrophobic isoflavones in aqueous whole-cell reaction system. Polyvinylpyrrolidone was verified to enhance solubility of daidzein mostly, which derived more than 1 g/L production of (S)-equol from daidzein in a simple whole-cell catalysis. The hydrophliic polymer could be used to enhance aqeuous solubility of a variety of plant polyphenols.
