What is it about?

We describe anatomical features of Scots pine sapwood which show large variation and is stand dependend. The anatomical differences are linked to the treatability of the wood material.

Why is it important?

Northern European stands of Scots pine can produce wood material which is difficult to impregnated after drying. The reason for this is mainly the composition of radial rays. A higher number of ray parenchyma cells in rays is positively influencing treatability. Optimzation of material selection could be beneficial for the impregnation industry.
