What is it about?

Metal forming is an important industrial branch and is characterized by high productivity. Defects disturb this productivity and are, therefore widely investigated . The forming limit diagram, FLD,, or curve is an experimental tool to help modeling and project associated with the process. This work discusses the limitations of the FLD.

Why is it important?

Understanding metal processing helps reducing costs, which ultimately result in cheaper products.

Perspectives

This is the effort of my collaborators Prof. Ronald Lesley Plaut and Dr. Marcos Domingos Xavier. The results are based on Dr. Xavier's PhD work at the Escola Politécnica da USP, and Prof. Plaut was his first supervisor (prior to his retirement). The contribution of Dr. Nelson Batista de Lime, Brazil' s greatest expert in crystallographic texture, was also crucial for this development.
