What is it about?

A new tolerance optimization model, which is to minimize the summation of manufacturing cost and the present worth of expected quality loss, is established to realize the concurrent tolerance allocation for products with multiple quality characteristics.

Why is it important?

This paper presents a new tolerance design theory—concurrent tolerancing for design and manufacturing which works in the concurrent engineering context. The theory of my paper may further enrich and develop tolerance design theory.

Perspectives

Concurrent tolerance allocation permits of determining directly optimal process tolerances in product design stage, reducing the fabrication cost of products; improving the product quality, raising the design efficiency and shortening the production lead time.
