What is it about?
"Conventional wisdom" teaches us "one mother bacterium divides into two daughter bacteria". My study presented in this experimental research paper challenged this textbook dogma by showing solid evidence that one mother bacterium reproduces one and more daughter bacteria while itself remains alive but becomes older.

Why is it important?
A true knowledge on relationship between two cells derived from one cell holds a key for understanding cellular lives. Recognizing a parent-child or, in other words, a mother-daughter relationship between two cells derived from one cell sets cell biology on a correct foundation that is essential for all aspects of life science.
