What is it about?
This article describes the manner in which test information received by taste buds flows into the brainstem and is represented in various brain regions. This information is mainly described for the channel catfish, which has a highly developed taste system.

Why is it important?
The information described in this article is important because very little is known about taste pathways in the brain and historically this was one of the first studies using neuroanatomical tracers to define new taste centers in the brain of fish, e.g. in the hypothalamus and telencephalon.
