What is it about?

On the big advantages of the Robot Operating System is that researchers all over the world can build control systems by combining modules created by other researchers. Progress can than be made by creating new modules based on more advanced algorithms, without the need to do this for the whole system.

Why is it important?

This is essential for the RoboCup Rescue, because that is still a hard task (exploring a devastated building). Many of the modules do not exist, for sure when you scale up from a single robot to a team of cooperating robots.

Perspectives

I like this piece of work, because care has been taken to be backward compatible. I always hate it when previous work gets obsolete because the framework got an update.
