This chapter introduces the essential pespectives of cultural psychology. The focus is on the history, the methodology, the methods and the cultural psychological conception of the human being as well as its relation to its various and changing environments.

Why is it important?

Cultural psychology is critical of certain views of mainstream academic psychology and offers sometimes complementary, sometimes alternative perspectives, questions, and answers. The article makes it clear that psychology and its so-called culture-informed approaches lack intercultural competencies and knowledge, so that their perspectives are so eurocentrically narrowed that they no longer do justice to the modern globalized world.
