What is it about?
There is a long history of studying community elites, but increasingly it's because less and less useful for the actual study of community. This chapter dives into that history, then uses the case of post-Katrina New Orleans to conceptualize a new way forward for the study of community elites -- by actually focusing on influential community members and their impact.

Reframing the study of community elites around community allows for critical new areas of study. Amongst them, the ability to look at how increased (or decreased) power for the elites in a community impacts social justice, NIMBYism and beyond.
