What is it about?

The aim of this paper is to examine the influence of owner-manager characteristics on the choice of the sources of financing of Nigeria small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Why is it important?

Logistic regression analysis was utilized to evaluate the impact of SME firm owner-manager characteristics on choice of financing. The findings show that in a considerable way, gender, education, religion, business status and management experience impact the choice of sources of SME financing in Nigeria. SME essentially with education and religion dispose to internal funding sources while the ones with experience, gender, and business status prefer external funding sources and the older and bigger firm makes more use of debt financing.

Perspectives

The study has provided an indication concerning the application of the organizational capability proposition. Therefore, the organizational capability theory is affirmed. This study outlined the evidence discussed and expands the existing literature. The methodology and the experiential outcomes provide a level of analysis unmatched via the prior study on Nigeria firm owners-managers from an academic opinion level. Likewise, the findings will deepen the knowledge, understanding and so the perception of SME firm managers. They can impact through the abilities of the firm owners-managers plan for and adapt to the business environment in which they operate and to assist them in their decision process with respect to their organization’s capital structure amid an interval when SME financing fuss are progressively evoked in the Nigeria environment.
