What is it about?
Acrodermatitis Enteropathica (AE) is an inherited disease that’s related to zinc intake and absorption in the body. As a result of lower zinc absorption, the serum zinc level is decreased which causes adverse effects such as dermatitis on hands, alopecia, diarrhea, and inflammatory rashes on genitals and extremities. These symptoms are very common among most skin diseases. Infants are the most vulnerable population as AE is associated with high infant mortality if not diagnosed and treated early (1).
