What is it about?

This book explains the formation of biofilm on materials surfaces in an industrial setting. The authors describe new developments in understanding of biofilm formation, detection, and control from the viewpoint of materials science and engineering. The book details the range of issues caused by biofilm formation and the variety of affected industries.

Why is it important?

Biofilm is not only the medical discipline, nor environmental topic, but also the problem of materials science. We focused on the important concept. Hopefully, this book will help us to solve the industrial problems caused by biofilm. Biofilm should be approached scientifically from the viewpoint of the combination, bacterial behaviors in environments / materials.

Perspectives

We aimed to edit this book from the viewpoint of materials science and engineering, so that the students, engineers and researchers in this discipline could have the information enough to tackle with this topic. Biofilm research started in medical science, then moved to environmental science, but finally, it should be solved in materials science and engineering, because biofilms form at the interface between environments and materials. Hope this book will be a good guidebook for you.
