What is it about?

A novel current source inverter (CSI) based active power filter controlled by a space vector modulation (SVPWM) method is used to limit the peak level power consumption of a pulsed power load.

Why is it important?

Unlike conventional approaches, the CSI active power filter energy storage is inductor based. The approach to control the CSI is established using two controllers: one to control the AC three-phase currents sourced by the electric grid, and the other to control the current on the inductor of the DC side of the CSI. The DC current controller will produce the reference values that will be further used in αβ space vector modulation, to control the AC currents.

Perspectives

The CSI stores energy in the DC inductor and supplies it when needed by the pulsed power load so that the amplitude of the AC currents supplied by the electrical network is nearly constant. Controllers were designed to actively compensate the current required by the pulsed load, allowing the tracking of the AC currents references. Simulation results were presented and allowed the validation of the proposed control system, showing that the proposed current source inverter active power filter has the capability to compensate pulsed power loads.
