What is it about?
The subject is sustainable development from the perspective of Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan to find an answer to the main research question of whether the trilateral Israel-Jordan-United Arab Emirates agreement on energy and water will impact Jordan’s effort at the mitigation of climate change and peaceful cooperation. For this purpose, quantitative, qualitative, and text analysis methods have been adopted. The theoretical perspectives applied are constructivism, international role theory, and adaptation theory, which helped to answer the research question. It is the statement that the tripartite agreement will impact Jordan’s efforts to mitigate climate change, but with a minimal local scope. However, it may be crucial and of greater significance for peaceful cooperation in the Middle East.

Why is it important?
The presented case study contributes to the overall area of sustainable development in the Middle East. The research conducted is crucial to the effectiveness of the Sustainable Development Goals implementation, in particular goals 6, 7, 13, 16, and 17. This chapter contributes to promoting and increasing the impact of climate diplomacy. The proposed chapter addresses a key challenge in the Middle East with global consequences in the context of climate change and peace. It is a practical application of solving a problem of humanitarian, economic, and environmental importance. The region is experiencing profound consequences of climate change. The agreement on cooperation in energy and water was signed in November 2021 in Dubai between Israel, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates are among the most significant peace initiatives in the Middle East for almost 30 years. The Water-for-Energy Agreement is possible thanks to the normalization of relations between Israel and the UAE based on the Abraham Accords signed in September 2020.
Perspectives
This project will provide interactions between participants from Israel, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates through joint activities. This will potentially benefit many people in Jordan by protecting the environment and water security, and increasing awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals. As a result, the potential benefits achieved under the project will benefit the societies of Jordan, Palestine, and Israel, and the entire region.
