What is it about?
The cylindrical penetrometer is a new tool that enables the direct determination of the undrained cohesion of soft soils and the friction angle of purely frictional soils. This experimental tool, protected by a patent WIPO, revealed successful to obtain comparable result with the direct shear test performed onTunis soft clay.

Why is it important?
The cylindrical penetrometer can be tested in-situ. There is no need of correlation to derive the undrained cohesion and/or the frictional angle, contrarily to the pratcice of existing tests like CPT, SPT and pressuremetr.
