What is it about?
In this chapter we explore the often overlooked potential of new media in combination with testimonial practices. We try to answer difficult ethical questions concerning media, mediation, agency, or truth, all the while going back to Spivak's "Can the subaltern speak?" among other key authors and texts.

Why is it important?
To the best of our knowledge, this is the first ever Socratic dialogue between two scholars who, by collaborating for quite a long time in the writing of this coauthored piece, discovered alternative ways of looking at digital storytelling and testimonial narratives.
Perspectives
We think readers will gain insights into conducting research of high impact stakes online, with all the benefits (e.g. engaging in social justice activism) and downsides (e.g. trolls, echo chambers, bubbles). Our goal is to add to the growing network of engaged scholarship, scholar activism even, becoming ethical witnesses, distant yet not removed from society and its ills.
