What is it about?

The paper gives an overview of fermentation of glucose in yeast. It suggests some new mechanisms that may be responsible for the oscillations and it is shown that the physical state of intracellular water may have a dramatic influence on the oscillations. It also comes with a suggestion for what role the oscillations may play for the organism.

Why is it important?

Oscillating metabolic processes are abundant in metabolic and signaling processes in eukaryotic organisms and it is important to know the mechanisms behind the oscillations in order to understand the importance of the oscillations for the health of the organism.
