What is it about?

This book chapter is about modern Pagan Witchcraft (including Wicca, Traditional Witchcraft, and Hereditary Witchcraft) in the Irish context, its history in the country and the religious community today. It documents the worldviews (belief systems) and rituals practiced by people who identify as Pagan Witches in Ireland. It also looks at the influence of ideas about the Celtic past on the thinking of modern self-identified Witches, and how these kinds of modern witchcraft can be understood as forms of Celtic spirituality.

Why is it important?

This chapter is important in helping us to understand what modern Pagan Witchcraft is, what this religious group believe and practice. It looks at this community in Ireland and how they connect with Ireland's history and culture, landscape and heritage. It reveals the significance of the Celtic past to contemporary people and documents how people connect spiritually to the idea of the Celtic.

Perspectives

One of my main areas of research is the Irish Pagan community in Ireland. I wrote this as a documentation of the worldview and practices of Pagan Witches in Ireland and the history of Pagan Witchcraft (including Wicca) in Ireland.
