Why is it important?

We focus on this type of surgical care because it is well structured and is thus amenable to study and improvement. In particular, we present a taxonomy that classifies the possible variants of perioperative activities across health care facilities.

Perspectives

We introduce a perspective of surgical care in which the delivery of care is understood as a reactive system.
