Why is it important?

It brings together a coherent and clear analysis of how fiscal problems relate to political stability.

Perspectives

I enjoyed writing this piece but it focused on the immediate years before the Revolution. I am completing a monograph on the Fiscal Origins of the French Revolution which surveys a longer periods of time, the years 1688-1788, which leaves more space to address the question of structures/agency.
