Severe sepsis and septic shock are challenging health problems. Norepinephrine is not always enough to guarantee the cellular oxygen delivery. Methylene blue may help.

The intensive care of septic shock patients is a difficult challenge in the intensive care units. Any possibilities to save the life of patients should be explored and well known.

Perspectives

This review article puts the basis for some randomised clinical trials, in order to clarify what the real role of methylene blue would be.
