Estrogen deficiency is a cancer risk factor for all sites of the body
What is it about?
Structures of upper aerodigestive tract are moderately estrogen dependent; they are endangered by cancer development only in case of deep estrogen deficiency. By contrast, female reproductive organs have high estrogen demand and even a mild defect of estrogen surveillance may be cancer risk factor for them.
Why is it important?
Cellular estrogen surveillance may be regarded as strong defense against cancer initiation and progression. Cancer prevention and treatment may be performed by exogenous estrogen treatment or by developing new estrogen sensitizing drugs.
