What is it about?
Nano-zirconium oxide particles were immobilized into chitosan to create organic-inorganic hybrid microcapsules (CZ) for self-healing anticorrosion materials. These microcapsules have a spherical morphology and thermal stability. They were incorporated into an epoxy coating matrix to create a self-healing coating, CZPx, for carbon steel protection. The coating's barrier property increased after 14 days of immersion, and its unique feature allows self-healing upon defects.

Why is it important?
NanoZirconium vanadate particles composited with chitosan possess healing ability for organic coatings, and composite is environmentally friendly.
