What is it about?

Autobiographical memory is an important cognitive capacity that contributes to many other mental health functions. Interventions for improving autobiographical memory are necessary to be used either as stand-alone interventions or in combination with other types of psychotherapy to address a variety of mental health issues. This study provided practical evidence-based recommendations for this purpose.

Why is it important?

Although there are several types of interventions proposed to improve autobiographical memory, it is not clear which intervention can be considered as the most cost-effective practice for this purpose. In addition, the scope of effectiveness of these interventions are not clear (i.e., which aspects of mental health can be sufficiently addressed by these interventions through their effects on autobiographical memory?).
