Why is it important?

The prevalence of urinary stone varies significantly from country to country all over the world. Epidemiological data on the occurrence of urinary stone ranges between 2 and 20%. The annual incidence of stone formation in the industrialized regions is generally considered to be 1,500–2,000 cases per million [4]. Few studies have been done in various countries worldwide on the epidemiology of urinary stone.

Urinary stone prevalence may vary according to cultural, racial, and health variables among countries. Accurate data on the epidemiology of an entity can only be determined if geographical region, socioeconomic status, race, age, sex, climate, nutrition, and other environmental and cultural factors are also considered. One of the important factors accounting for the large differences observed in the prevalence of urinary stones between countries is different epidemiological methods.
