Why is it important?
In this juncture, the present study investigates the approach towards environmental accounting and attitude of local community towards its contribution with respect to 7 indicators namely protective measures, resource conservation, cost benefit analysis, aesthetic value, tourist attraction, climate change, cultural landscape, identified in the context of well recognized ecotourism destinations in India. The study shows that the community members at various ecotourism destinations are aware about the need for environmental accounting. They are of the opinion that environmental accounting will play positive role, especially, for resource conservation, and there by the destination could maintain its resource pool to attract tourists in the long run. The role of environmental accounting in shielding of climate change, and cost-benefit analysis appears to be less discoursed among community members.
Perspectives
